Better understanding the functioning of empathic processes and compassion in patients with Parkinson’s disease can help to understand the serious impairment of social relationships frequently observed. This has a very important impact not only on their relationship with their caregivers but on all their daily social life. This knowledge could suggest and open new reflections for new studies on several fields, for example for drug therapy associated with non-motor symptoms such as those of the deficit of empathy, for new psycho-social intervention programs in PD such as those of implications for quality of life in PD patients and caregivers (i.e. depression and suicide).
